A beach house of two halves: a concrete upper floor that shelters, and a glass ground floor that opens completely to the lawn, the pool and the sea.
The brief was a house for a family who spend most of the year outside. The upper floor is a single off-form concrete form, cantilevered to shade the living rooms below and to hold the bedrooms up among the treetops.
On the ground floor every wall facing the water slides away. Oak battens filter the western sun, and the pool runs the length of the house so the light moves across the ceilings all afternoon.
